Job Summary

The Patient Service Center Representative I (PSC Rep I) is dedicated to creating a positive patient experience by efficiently managing day-to-day operations related to patients’ appointments. This role may involve either financial clearance or scheduling functions, maintaining high standards of customer service at all times. Occasionally, the PSC Rep I may perform both duties within a limited scope, requiring a thorough understanding of each function.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Clearance:

  • Collect and verify required patient demographic and financial data to create a complete pre-registered account for scheduled visits.
  • Complete the pre-certification process by obtaining authorization from insurers and healthcare facilities, verifying patient insurance, and confirming benefits eligibility.
  • Assist team members as needed.
  • Adhere to department policies and procedures related to verification of eligibility/benefits, pre-authorization requirements, available payment options, financial counseling, and other related duties.

Scheduling:

  • Handle easier, less complex scheduling tasks.
  • Ensure accurate and timely scheduling for outpatient appointments.
  • Provide callers with information related to their appointments, including preparation information for tests, directions, canceling/rescheduling tests, order management, and answering any other questions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on departmental needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work in a production-driven call center environment.
  • Familiarity with dual computer monitors.
  • Basic typing skills.
  • Working knowledge of Windows-based computer environments.
  • Ability to multitask in a high-volume center.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education / Experience

  • Required: High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Two years of college (or equivalent professional, customer service-driven experience).
  • Preferred: Telephone/call center experience.
  • Preferred: Pre-registration and/or scheduling experience.
  • Preferred: 1-2 years of customer service experience.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to work in a sitting position, use a computer, and answer the telephone.
  • Ability to travel if necessary.

Work Environment

  • Office work environment.
  • Hospital work environment.

Travel

  • Approximately 0% travel required.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay: $13.40-$20.00 per hour, depending on location, qualifications, and experience.
  • Eligible for a signing bonus for qualified new hires.
  • Time and a half for Conifer observed holidays.
