The Associated Press Elections Team is looking for talented, ambitious and diverse individuals to provide services as Vote Entry Operators for our Virtual Vote Entry Center. This is a perfect opportunity for students, retirees, anyone looking for short-term remote work, or simply looking to contribute to this important election cycle.

Role Overview:

As a Vote Entry Operator (VEO), you will play a critical role in the 2024 Election Year and possibly in later elections, inputting vote totals from stringers and websites in counties and cities nationwide, for newspaper, broadcast and internet customers worldwide. These are flexible, fully remote, temporary positions that require certain skills, equipment and time commitment for training and election day responsibilities.

 

Requirements

  • VEOs are task-oriented critical thinkers with an eye/ear for accuracy who possess great listening and verbal skills.
  • Must be highly motivated, independent and detail oriented.
  • VEOs must supply their own laptop or desktop computer with Windows 10 or a Mac (OS v10.8.1 or higher)
  • Operators must supply a cell phone to interface with AP’s multifactor authentication security process and for direct communication with the AP staff, as needed.
  • A second monitor is preferred but not required.
  • Operators will be paid for services rendered in the following areas of involvement:
    • Onboarding to the AP’s proprietary election software.
    • Pre-recorded training sessions to learn AP applications.
    • Live training sessions to become proficient in AP processes.
    • Election Night (approx. 6pm-1am ET) and the days after for Extended Tabulation and Verification (if selected and available).

 

Competency in written and spoken English language is required.

Compensation: $17/hr. (Direct deposit or PayPal; will pay up to five hours to cover the time required for onboarding and training. Payment for other times will be based on hours of service.)

 

Please be advised that this position is as an independent contractor and not as an employee of The Associated Press (AP). As such, individuals engaged will be performing services on a short-term contract basis. Contractors will not be considered employees of AP, and this role does not entail eligibility for employee benefits, workers’ compensation, or employment protections. This opportunity is designed to offer flexibility and autonomy for those looking for temporary, project-based work in support of the 2024 Election Year.
